He had a goofy personality and took pride in bringing people happiness. A graduate of Preble High School, he was employed by Kewaunee Fitness on the janitorial staff and Hollyhock house as a groundskeeper. Loving son of Patrick Hallet and Amity Vandenheuvel. In retirement, Barbara continued to work as a seamstress for a local store, making custom patterns and clothing. Retirement brought them back to Door County, where they built their dream home on Ekman property next to Barbara’s sister, Malin (Trudy) Ekman. She owned her own business and worked for Nordstrom as a tailor.

Barbara loved to sew and was a wonderfully talented career seamstress. In 1963, they moved to Palatine, IL where Bob was offered a job as a linotype operator. They met at Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek, WI, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 9, 2023. Their family lived in the famous Heidelberg House in the Town of Jacksonport, WI.īarbara’s husband, Robert William Shine, is the fourth-generation Shine family from Door County, WI.

After visiting Door County, WI, Nels knew their family would finally settle there so he could, once again, become a commercial fisherman. Barbara’s father, Nels, was a fisherman in Lapland Sweden, which bordered Finland on Kalix River. Her parents emigrated from Sweden, passing through Ellis Island, before putting down roots in Evanston, IL where Barbara was born on July 1, 1933. Barbara Marie Shine, 89, of Baileys Harbor, WI, and recently of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away Tuesday, at Journe圜are Hospice CareCenter in Barrington, IL.
